Garlic & Coriander Naan Bread
I am going to show you how to make an easy naan bread. A naan bread is a traditional Indian flat bread usually made in a tandoor (clay oven) it is then served with a curry of your choice. This is my version of a homemade garlic & coriander naan bread and the best thing about this naan bread is that it is oven baked. My naan bread is crispy on the outside but so soft bread-like in the inside. I have added olive oil, butter, garlic and coriander drizzled over the naan bread. This recipe is as good as a restaurant style naan bread, but made using an oven. Try it for yourself and see. You’ll thank me later ;-)
Ingredients
200ml warm water
7g yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons plain yoghurt
50ml milk
2 eggs
350g plain flour
Method
1. In a clean dry bowl add the dry and wet ingredients and form a dough. Rub the dough with a couple of drops of olive oil and cover it with a tea towel and set aside for one hour.
2. Meanwhile pour 100ml of olive oil and 150g of butter in a pan.
3. Cut and mince 6 garlic cloves and add to the olive oil and butter. Cook the garlic until golden. Do not burn the garlic otherwise your butter will be bitter.
4. Once done and cooled down add the chopped coriander and set aside for when your naan bread is done.
5. Time for your naan bread. Once your dough has risen punch down and knead for a few minutes.
6. Divide the dough and roll into balls and set aside.
7. I have used my hands to shape my dough you can of course use a rolling pin to flatten your dough and shape.
8. Lightly spray the baking tray with oil and place the shaped dough on top of the baking tray and baked until done. It will be done in about 5 to ten minutes baking time at 200C (gas mark 6)
9. Once the naan is baked take out of the oven and brush down with the garlic and coriander butter. Serve with a curry of your choice.
