Chocolate Hazelnut Cake
This is my recipe of the chocolate hazelnut cake, especially if you love chocolate hazelnut spread. This chocolate cake is so moist and rich. I have used cocoa and chocolate chips making it double chocolate. This cake is a two layer cake, I have used a chocolate hazelnut frosting for the filling and topping. You can use any chocolates for the cake decoration.
Ingredients
Prepare 20 minutes, plus standing time
Serves 7-8
Ingredients
250g self-raising flour
3 tablespoons spoons of cocoa powder
50g caster sugar
70g melted butter
100ml milk
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
50g milk chocolate chips
Baking tins lined and greased
Method
1. Sieve the self-raising flour and baking powder and add the cocoa powder in a clean bowl. Beat the eggs together and pour in the dry mixture and stir well.
2. Pour the melted butter and stir well and the caster sugar and a bit more cocoa powder. I like it slightly richer in taste. You don’t have to.
3. Add the vanilla extract and mix well. Pour the milk a little at a time and stir well
4. Use the folding action when you are mixing. Add a little more milk and fold again. This folding action is letting air into your cake mix which will make your cake spongy and moist. Your cake won’t be too dense.
5. Now add the chocolate chips and stir in.
6. Divide your mixture into the cake tins.
7. Put into a pre heated oven at fan 160c for 25 minutes or until the cake is baked through.
For the frosting
Chocolates to decorate
290g unsalted butter
70g chocolate hazelnut spread
255g icing sugar
100g extra chocolate hazelnut spread to spread on in the middle of the cake
Cut and prepare the piping bake with the rose nozzle.
1. In a mixer add the butter and mix until soft and white then add the icing sugar a little at a time checking the consistency of your frosting. Beware if you add too much of the chocolate spread it will be too runny to pipe onto your cake as there is oil in the spread so it’s very important for me to tell you this.
2. Add the chocolate spread and mix until you have the right consistency and the chocolate hazelnut flavour in your frosting.
3. Once done fill your piping bag and pipe the inside of your cake.
4. Put the top layer sponge on top and spread the frosting at the top of the cake.
5. Now start to pipe your rose frosting around the cake. Then decorate with chocolates of your choice.
You have made the perfect cake.
